Physical therapy treatment augmented by holistic practices

Chronic pain and disability doesn’t have to be your reality. How a PT practice augmented with P-DTR can restore the spring back to joyful movement and exercise.

I now know that how the human body works is a lot more complex than just a bag of bones held together by muscles, ligaments, and fascia. The nervous system is the intelligence that coordinates the effortless choreography of any meaningful interactions with our world. In physical therapy, we are concerned with effective and optimal movement to restore the body back to “the factory setting.” The reason why P-DTR is such an effective clinical tool is because of a direct engagement with the body’s operating system (the nervous system). We speak the language the nerves understand using different sensory stimulus such as hot or cold, itch or tickle, slaps or pokes, crude touch or fine touch, and countless other stimuli. Other ways of communicating to it are with thoughts or emotions, or chemically via nutrition with food or dietary supplements.

Needless to say, how I treat clients now compared to a year ago is much more holistic and comprehensive since learning P-DTR. Once you know better, you do better. There’s no turning back. Gone are the days that I will just work on just “the hardware “(muscles and joints) or correction of “bad “ body mechanics.

Here’s a case study from my practice. A woman in her 70’s presented with “an arthritic knee” which has progressively worsened over decades as a result of multiple injuries and unresolved pain in her foot. After examining her foot, the therapist I was last year would have likely felt the dread and overwhelm by the severity of the deformities of a bunion and twisted toes that turned up to the sky, and a faulty gait pattern that was straight out of a horror movie.

Thank god there are the tools of P-DTR of examination and treatment. By checking the muscles for abnormal reflexes of proper activation or relaxation, I figured out which sensory nerves were dysfunctional and successfully treated within a few minutes. She reported a miraculous improvement of pain in her from a level of 9 out of 10, to 3 out of 10 within the half hour session.

There are many more case studies I can write about and will write about in the future. My hope is that these accounts will inspire people to seek physical therapists and other practitioners who have knowledge of the P-DTR approach to help them with physical ailments that have failed to respond to traditional physical therapy, massage or medical interventions. My dear reader, I wish you full and joyful expressions in all of your physical engagements, for the entirety of your lifespan.
